Dear GEM,
I was wondering if your collective knowledge may be able to help me. As part of a project I am working on I’m looking at how museums can provide services beyond their physical space - bringing the museum to the people. So, really museum outreach, but not necessarily going into schools, community groups, etc, more taking a mini museum out with them to large events, fetes, festivals, and so forth.
I’ve seen examples of this where museums have taken the museum out on tour - they've have had stands at town festivals, village fetes, and a travelling museum in a box (well, a trailer really); but I can’t recall the details. So, I was wondering if anyone had any good examples of museums that do this? And, how is this funded/budgeted for? How is it managed (volunteers, a mixture of volunteers/staff); and any steer on equipment would be great.
Happy to collate answers into one document and share.
Cheers
Paddy
