My limited experience of QR Codes has always been disappointing - they promise so much - a direct link to exclusive mobile content targeted specifically for the context I encountered them in but so often they just take you to the corporate home page.
I’ve long since stopped scanning them, perhaps that’s what the OP was hinting at?
