one should be aware that misnomers have the implications they entail.
a commercial firm coining the term "design thinking" is not inherently suspect, but you are right that it benefits that firm perhaps more than the design community at large. this is why we might want to examine its worth.

I would add that “design thinking” is a misnomer. Understandable, as it was coined by a commercial design firm.
The term “design thinking” came after the process itself was invented, as I understand, to express “the way designers think” as in “the way designers do things”.
Who knows? They might have even lifted the name from the cover of the Nigel Cross book.
