You might be interested in a paper I wrote where evolution theory was an
important premise:

In the paper I refer to "Norman Doors" and "Darwin Beaks"
To understand evolution one should separate natural selection from mutation.
If one does not know which way a Norman Door swings and it is essential to
survival to do so, then one has been selected for extinction. That is
natural selection.
If one develops a neurological technique of using affordances to know which
way a Norman Door opens, which is passed down socially through the
generations, then it is possible - in theory - for that process to be so
embedded neurologically that it passes down genetically. That is mutation.
Many scientists now say this is how autism has become inherited within
families.
