Aalto University School of Arts, Design and Architecture is one of the most prestigious international universities of art, design and architecture in the world. The school is a strong source of social influence. Key areas of research are design, digital media, audiovisual representation, art, visual culture, well-being architecture and emerging technologies, and urban planning and design. Postdoctoral Researcher in Design

The Department of Design is an internationally acknowledged design education and research unit. The department has a team of 40 researchers and about 750 students most of which study on postgraduate level. Its research foci are human centered design, constructive design research, cultural design research and sustainable design. (http://design.aalto.fi/en/)
The Department of Design is looking for a postdoctoral researcher for the Design Driven World of Cellulose (DWoC) -research project. DWoC is a multidisciplinary project focusing in cellulose materials and their novel applications by combining design, chemical technology and business. Project partners are Aalto University, VTT, Tampere University of Technology and University of Vaasa. The project is funded by TEKES.
The postdoctoral researcher is expected to conduct high quality research in collaboration with the multidisciplinary research team, focusing in the experiences and benefits of using design-driven approach in multidisciplinary collaboration.
The position is fixed-term and will be filled for 18-24 months. The starting date is preferably as soon as possible but is negotiable. The majority of work time will be allocated for research, although the researcher will also participate the teaching. Salary will be determined upon competence and experience of the chosen person following the salary system of Finnish universities.
Qualified candidates are expected to have experience in constructive design research, especially in practice-led research through prototyping. Further strong skills in building theoretical analysis of design practice and design experimentations in a multidisciplinary network is needed.

·         One page summary of each of the following: candidate's research achievements; artistic and/or professional achievements; teaching merits; and contribution to research community.

The evaluation is based on the total assessment of a candidate in each main dimension: research, interest in multidisciplinary collaboration between design and science, teaching and activity in scientific community. The main weight is put on research.
Aalto University reserves the right to leave the position open, to extend the application period and to consider candidates who have not submitted applications during the application period.
