Dear colleagues
As part of an R&D project funded by Nesta, ACE and AHRC, the London Sinfonietta Orchestra has just released an app for iPhone and iPad that gamifies Steve Reich's landmark composition Clapping Music.
http://clappingmusicapp.com
It went live 5 days ago and so far we have had 15,000 downloads and a lot of media coverage on the web so it has been well received. The aim of the project is to find out whether we can increase our audience engagement by presenting our artform to a potentially new audience through digital technology. In addition we hope that the app will also improve your rhythm and teach you about Steve Reich and minimalism more generally. We are also conducting research into whether gamification of an artform can translate to other arts organisations to provide similar audience development benefits.
We are now actively recruiting for volunteers from other arts sectors for this part of our research. It would involve downloading the app for free, playing the game, exploring the app a little bit and then completing a short 5 minute online survey. We need about 20 volunteers from the Museums sector and in particular, colleagues who might have an interest in either digital or education or both.
We are also seeking volunteers from theatre and visual arts sectors so if anyone knows of a similarly wonderful mailing list such as this, I would be very keen to hear about it.
If you are willing to make the time to help us with this research, you will need an iPhone or iPad running iOS8+. We will only contact you with regard to this particular project and your information will not be added to our database or passed on to any third parties.
Please reply by Friday 17 July to confirm if you are able to participate.
With kindest regards
Barbara Palczynski
