I find this discussion so much at odds with personalisation discussions
on the Association of Learning Technology list.
Take a look at how lecturers and learning technologists struggle to
personalise learning tasks and materials to suit each student logged in
to Moodle. An obvious example is a first year economics module at the
Cass Business School, where some students have already done economics
A-level, others have never studied the subject. What kind of explanation
is needed for the different students? Who should be diverted to a set of
Khan Academy videos?
We now have companies like Cogworks developing software to customise
student routes though learning material based on their scores in
frequent tests.
Many users of HE websites are not casual visitors, but people with
particular relationships to the organisation, and with their own
specific needs.
