Since I've taken up admin I'v e had not much time to think or write, so a post about becoming a playful child is especially refreshing.
To suggest something: have you read Gunther Kress (now at IOE)? HE argues that children's creative play (of words) is a kind of Design, a kind of skill or capacity that adults have lost (when over time they merely seek to use, rather than re-shape/Design word-signs)
Merry Xmas

Subject: potential of design education for awakening the inner child or mindfulness
Of late i have been trying to abstract some fundamental features of design education that has the potential for awakening the inner child.
I was able to explore this only because of my exposure to how children learn naturally or to be in the world.
Children are exploring the way world looks, feels and functions.
Seeing is about forms, feeling is about understanding the quality of materials and doing is the way to understand the process/ phenomenon.
Children's spontaneous play in villages is about awakening the tools to know the world and to explore various aspects of the world. form, quality, process and location. I think this is the basis for indigenous/ traditional knowledge because it deals with existence.
Design is closed (stricter purpose) version of natural learning or natural learning is open ended version of design process.
