Hello GEMMers,
Just a few quick pointers about GLO from Sweden
(not aiming to cover the whole story), for those
who are interested in the Scandinavian area;
The Swedish Exhibition Agency, Riksutställningar,
is exploring GLO during this year, as a creative
development tool for the
museum/art/science/heritage sector, with seminars
and training courses. This as a result of a
museum survey last year, where contemporary
development tools were ranked highly by musuem
professionals. (Visitor studies and marketing tools are also explored.)
There are also a few clusters of Swedish local
museums currently undergoing GLO training,
with one aim being about developing methods to
become more relevant to the community/society, in
different areas of museum work.
Two events seem to have kick-started thinking about GLO in Sweden:
In 2012, the equivalent of GEM in Sweden, FUISM,
arranged a conference "Att vara angelägen",
covering the measuring of outcomes and outcome based planning.
Also, in 2012, The Nordic-Baltic Centre for
Learning ran training days on GLO, currently
running an exciting two tear project, "Implementing HLO",
please see: http://nckultur.org/english/projects/implementation-hlo/
In an early 2011 study, carried out at the
University of Lund, the authors explored GLO and
the relevance for the Swedish museum/Heritage
sector, concluding, among other things:
"the results of the study indicate that GLO, if
applied adequately, can help balance the
economics-based discourse and put more focus on
the qualitative aspects and values of museums and culture. "
Relevant indeed..
