Chief Executive Officer
Salary up to £55,000 (depending on experience)
The Scottish Library & Information Council [SLIC] is the independent advisory body to the Scottish Government and Scottish ministers on library and information matters.
The Council offers leadership focus and support to the Scottish library and information sector, coordinating and promoting national service developments to benefit Scotland's people and enrich our cultural, educational and economic landscape.
SLIC members include all local authority, higher education, further education organisations, NHS Trust library services, as well as other specialist library and information organisations.
The Board is looking to appoint a new Chief Executive Officer who is drawn from the Library and Information Community. We want someone who will inspire, be self motivated, resilient, an excellent communicator with significant strategic and planning skills. The successful candidate will have a proven track record of delivering outstanding leadership capabilities at a senior level.
The Role
• Provide operational planning and strong visible strategic leadership for SLIC, ensuring that it is at the forefront, for Library and Information services in Scotland, in active partnership with relevant organisations
• Responsible for implementing SLIC’s vision, mission, values and overall direction
• Work in partnership to develop, implement and manage strategies which will result in tangible improvements for our members
• Build effective and sustainable relationships with key stakeholders within the Library and Information Community
• Demonstrate commitment to working in partnership to understand and bring the library community together through collaborative working practices
• Identifying and managing grant allocation from the Scottish Government
• Agree, monitor and report on annual budgets and targets
• Continue to drive quality and efficiency improvement wherever possible

The successful candidate will need to draw upon their knowledge and demonstrate their experience in the following areas:

Essential attributes for this role
• Senior experience of current issues within the Library and Information sectors in Scotland
• Degree educated or equivalent
• Ability to work effectively under pressure and respond positively to change
• High standard of personal and professional integrity
• Excellent negotiating and influencing skills
• Persuasive and effective communicator
