*Parry Williams Doctoral Studentship in Music*

This award is named after D. E. Parry Williams (1900-1996), the first
Head of School at Bangor; it is funded by an endowment at the University
in his memory. For more than a decade now, the Parry Williams fund has
supported excellent undergraduate and postgraduate students in Music.
The School is inviting applications from candidates with outstanding
research potential in any area of music, but especially for doctoral
projects that fall within the established research groups

musicology, composition, electroacoustic composition, sonic arts and
performance). Applications are particularly welcome from students
working in David Parry Williams's own specialist areas: Welsh music and
composition.
The award will consist of a bursary of £7,500 per annum for a period of
three years.
To be eligible prospective students must fulfil the conditions for
doctoral study and have been offered a place as a PhD student at Bangor
University. The successful candidate will be expected to take up his/her
studies at Bangor in the autumn of 2013 or as soon as possible thereafter.
As a PhD student in Bangor, you would be part of a lively and close-knit
scholarly environment, in which musicological and practice-based
research take equally important roles. Established in 1884, Bangor
University benefits from its stunning geographical location between the
Snowdonia National Park and the North Wales coast, and has excellent
transport links to London (3 hours by train), the north west of England
and the Midlands, and the Republic of Ireland.

This should address the following aspects:
(a)research question
(b)research context in which the question is located
(c)methodology
(d)previous experience in the field and preparedness for the task
(e)contribution to knowledge and understanding expected to result from
the project
(f)link(s) with research environment and/or staff expertise at Bangor
The proposal document should also include samples of your previous work,
either within the PDF, or as links to online materials.
(3)A detailed CV (as a separate PDF, sent to [log in to unmask]
<mailto:[log in to unmask]>), including a list of recent work
(dissertations, compositions, performances, articles, conference papers,
recordings, etc.) as applicable.
