The problem is, if you apply that logic more widely, why bother having ACE Accredited museums? How many people know (or care) if a museum is accredited? Maybe what accreditation (in general) does is shows the value the organisation places on having reached certain levels of management and delivery of the activity area (and therefore the calibre of staff present and required in the future). It is also extremely useful to be able to show current and future/potential funders where an organisations priorities lie, and the time and resource they are willing to invest in maintaining a certain recognised standard.
As I said, whether anyone cares or checks these things, who knows, but in terms of supporting the role, vision and resource allocation of an organisation, accreditations seem pretty useful tools in my experience (and if £100 will break the coffers of any museum, I would suggest more radical actions are needed).

Dear Pete
I have undertaken a variety of research with schools across East of England, London and the South East over the past five years and I am afraid I haven’t found a single school that was bothered by the LOtC. As a result I do not recommend gaining accreditation to the organisations that I work with.
Best wishes
Claire

Just received an invitation to renew our subscription to LOtC and am wondering whether it's worth the £100. LOtC reports that the Dept for Education is endorsing the scheme and schools are searching the LOtC website for badge holders when planning visits, but we have no evidence that our school groups set any store by the award. I'm interested to know what people think.
Thanks
Pete
