medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Thanks to Peggy Brown (on Mediev-L) and CC (on M-R).
I do intend to contact Brigitte Bedos-Rezak about this eventually (a
wonderfully knowledgable and generous scholar, and yes, CC, formerly at
UMCP, now at NYU), but want to get more of the ground work done first.
As I said, no context-- the ring is currently owned by a dealer. She
actually thought that the setting was Victorian, and bought the ring
because of its Roman intaglio. I was very tempted to simply buy it,
rather than letting her know what she probably has.
I know the work of Douay d'Arcq, Demay, Otto Posse, et al. well, plus
that of such more recent scholars as Brigitte and Martine
Dallas-Garrigues. The question of the moment is about the script-- I'm
hoping that a palaeographer or epigrapher out there can offer some guidance.
thanks again,
Genevra
