medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture

Mediev-L.
i didn't mean to suggest that you "steer clear" of them, only that you Gird
Your Loins (do girls even have girdable loins?) and get someone like Brother
Briggs to Watch Your Back (i'm much too Old and Sick and Tired and Stupit).
then, march right into the Lions' Den, armed with a prominently displayed
foreknowledge of Reynold's, Brown & Co.
it's been nearly a decade since i was on Mediev-L, so the subject has surely
come up many times, who knows, perhaps with some sort of Resolution.
however, it seems to me that the F-Problem is one of those where, if the
F-Word didn't exist to denote the concept behind it, another word would have
to be found to take its place --and is further complicated by the fact that
_feodum_ (and its variants) is the very word sometimes (but not always) used
by the middevils themselves to denote *something* like what we call (rightly
or wrongly) "feudalism."
