Dear all,
I would also like to make those interested in design and politics (and policy) aware of some initiatives in Europe.
In 2010, design was included for the first time in the European Commission's policy Innovation Union. The European Commission has recognised the value of design for user-friendly products, innovation in public and private services and to tackle social challenges. As part of this policy, the Commission launched the European Design Innovation Initiative in 2010 http://europeandesigninnovation.eu/ and a call for proposals for four projects. We are one of the successful projects.
Design Wales, based at Cardiff Metropolitan University in the UK are leading a network of 11 organisations called the SEE Platform: www.seeplatform.eu We are looking at the role of design in innovation policy. I can't add attachments to this email but here are links to our project bulletin and a paper about design policy in Europe that I presented a the DMI conference in Boston last week:

The topic of design policy is becoming increasingly important in Europe. For those interested in the topic please do sign up via the SEE website to receive SEE news and get in contact if you would like to find out more.
Kind regards,
Anna Whicher
