UXUS (User experience and usability in complex systems) is a Tekes and FIMECC program that studies, among other topics, the means of designing experiences in business-to-business context. Traditionally, the focus of UX research has clearly been on consumer products, but we see it inevitable that the area of UX research will broaden to include the tools at work and to consider the different stakeholders in addition to the user. This territory has various research topics to tackle, so the candidates are encouraged to discuss with Virpi Roto before applying to find a suitable research question for the application.
Earlier experience from the field of Design and User experience is required. However, the research area is multidisciplinary, so the candidate may have a Master's degree e.g. in Industrial design, Human-Computer Interaction, Industrial and organizational psychology, Social psychology, Marketing, or Economics.
The doctoral students are expected to complete their DA in four years, during which they should complete their DA thesis and doctoral studies, participate research projects around their topic area, and teach relevant courses. The monthly salary will be according to the Aalto salary system, depending on the canditate's expertise and tasks, from 2050€ upwards. Before hired, the candidate must first pass the general selection of doctoral students in the department of design, for which you can find the guidance below.
