The Zoom H2 (now the H2n) is one of the most convenient units on the
market, and the sound quality is excellent. You can use it as a
standalone recorder or as a USB interface for recording direct onto
computer. In standalone mode, it records to standard SD memory cards.
A cheap 4Gb card will give you several hours of stereo recording - and
a lot more if you record in mp3 format.
There are now a number of competitors, though. It's worth having a
look at websites such as Dolphin Music, Gear4Music, Gak, DV247, or
StudioSpares. A quick trawl will tell you what's out there, and you
should be able to find reputable reviews online by such people as
Sound on Sound.
Best wishes,
