Today (27. March) is also the feast day of:
Matthew of Beauvais (d. ca. 1097). Older propers of Beauvais commemorate Matthew (Matthieu, Mathieu), said to have been a knight in the household of bishop Roger of Beauvais who accompanied him to the Holy Land on the First Crusade and who, having been captured by Muslims and having refused to abjure his faith, was condemned to death by decapitation. Matthew is said to have asked for, and to have received, the boon of being executed on Good Friday. Still celebrated locally in France, he has yet to grace the pages of the RM.
Best,
John Dillon
