Hi Gunnar
You might say that design academia is the economics faculty of the 21st
century.
It's equally prone to self appointment and self aggrandisment, equally
capable of great and meaningful work, equally prone to spurious claims of
scientific identity and equally important to society to get working
reasonably well.
Like economics, it's full of those who would see their discipline as a
panacaea, and over-rate its relevance in solving deeply intractable
problems - often missing that the problems it addresses are often ones that
it creates for itself.
It's also full of those who would challenge the idea of a monolithic
"Design" discipline, and seek to move beyond this totalising and reifying
idea ;)
Cheers,
Adam
