Dear all,
I have been asked to offer some sessions for Supported Learning students (adults with basic skills needs and learning disabilities) on construction courses, supporting their learning of construction methods by showing how things were done in the past.
One thing I'm keen to look at is 'health and safety' (or lack of!) in the past but I can't find any useful references. Can anyone point me in the direction of info/anecdotes on accidents that happened during building works, or how scaffolding was put up, or attitudes to injuries, or, in fact, ANYthing that will add something to the visit! We'll be looking at materials and construction methods as well and given that my DIY skills just about stretch to putting up shelves, any info on building in general would be very gratefully received!
For info, I work in a Jacobean house, but the tutor is really looking for a contrast between 'then' and 'now' without being too specific about when 'then' is, given the nature of the students, so any info would be great.
Many thanks in advance, and let me know if you would like anything collated.
Best wishes,
Rosie
