medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
apologies for cross-posting
Dear all,
I have at last finished the re-indexing of my web site, and posted many
new pages.
The historical archive is still accessed the same way, either via the
main home page
http://www.kornbluthphoto.com/
or directly to the archive itself
http://www.kornbluthphoto.com/archive-1.html
Once there, you will find a less cluttered and (I hope) clearer set of
options. All images in the archive are now indexed by
--historical culture/period (Early Christian, Carolingian, etc.),
--strict chronology regardless of cultural grouping (e.g. 12th c.
Western, Byzantine, and Islamic all together)
–iconography
–medium (ceramic, various metals, stones, etc.)
–object types (reliquaries, crowns, manuscripts...)
–current location (architecture in situ, but also all the different
collections)
–artist’s name, when known.
The new indexing incorporates all of the suggestions that I have gotten
from list members. There are now, for example, pages for saints, Old
Testament images from Christian contexts, and gryphons, all through the
iconographic index. The object types index will lead you to inscriptions
in various languages, crowns, and reliquaries. If you want to know what
is in the archive from a given museum, check the location index. And so on.
In the process of indexing I have corrected quite a few errors (e.g.
Iphigenia in Tarsus instead of Tauris), but others surely remain, and I
do not have full information for every object. If you spot captions that
you can help to correct or complete, please let me know.
As my site has gotten more complex, I have mostly stopped trying to note
the unposted images that I have for each category. So if you need
something not listed, do drop me a note to check whether I could upload it.
I hope that the new structure makes my site more useful to all of you!
All best,
Genevra
