Dear all,
The Build the Truce conflict resolution project at the Imperial War Museum is pleased to announce a forthcoming conference - Starting Conversations...
This conference aims to bring together teachers and other education professionals to develop subject knowledge about conflict resolution in a variety of historic and contemporary contexts, and to discuss how the conversations that begin the conflict resolution process can be started. It will also feature an element of practical training on the use of social media, film and podcasting for learning by Radiowaves - a safe online social networking site.
It will take place at Imperial War Museum North in Manchester on Saturday 5 March, and run from 10am until 4.30pm.
Speakers include:
Peter Dixon - Chief Executive of Concordis International, a conflict resolution charity that works in places such as Sudan, Afghanistan, Kenya and Israel and Palestine.
Dr Kyodo Murakami, Lecturer at the University of Bath who has been working to document the experiences of the Iruka Boys, a group of former Far East Prisoners of War.
Dr Tim Jacoby, Lecturer in Conflict Studies at the Institute for Development Policy & Management and co-founder of the Humanitarian and Conflict Response Institute (both at the University of Manchester).
Lucy Neale - Project Director at Digital Me, host of the Radiowaves safe online social networking site used for learning.
Further details can be found on the attached information sheet but please feel free to contact me if you have further questions or if you wish to book a place.
The conference is free and travel expenses of up to £50 are offered to participants. There are 50 places available and the closing date for booking is Monday 28 February.
I hope that you will consider joining us on what will be an interesting and informative day. Please also forward to anyone else that you think might be interested.
With best wishes
Amy
