Dear All,
See the Department of Education Website for time table and details of
the new curriculum:http://www.education.gov.uk/
English, Maths, Science and PE are all to be compulsory from Sept
2012, but will probably have new curiculums.
Other 9 subjects are up for review.
•art and design
•citizenship
•design and technology
•geography
•history
•information and communication technology (ICT)
•modern foreign languages (MFL)
•music
New curriculums will be in place from Sep 2013, and some will no
longer be compulsory - which ones are not confirmed yet, although there
is much speculation for some subjects. It is likely that we will see
less subjects within the curriculum(giving teachers more freedom on
what to teach) but with more sepcification on facts to be taught - this
is a reverse on the recent Key Stage 3 curriculum which specifies
subjects but gives reasonable freedom within it of what is to be
taught. History is likely to be taught in a more connected way e.g on
going time line etc.
Some are hailing this as a return to 1950's education.
We should all take part in the consultation process if we are able.
Enjoy!
Ali Bodley
