Dear All
Please note that Tricia Hartley, CEO at the Campaign for Learning will now
be delivering the key note presentation on this exciting free course
detailed below. The day will be packed with interesting, practical and
inspiring contributions from museums with considerable expertise in engaging
adult audiences through programmes, courses and events.
Free training day Engaging hard to reach adults
Funded by Renaissance South East
Date: Wednesday 1st December 2010
Time: 10.00 to 16.00
Venue: Pitt Rivers Museum, Oxford
Adult learning is a huge and often complicated field. This course will
explore how to engage adult audiences through programmes and events. From
working with Adult Education providers to informal learners, from accredited
courses to creating an adult learning offer, this course will give practical
and transferable ideas for ways to engage adults in your museum. ³How to²
sessions will provide participants with the principles upon which to build
good practice and draw on the expertise of presenters from a wide range of
museums in the South East who already successfully engage adult audiences.
The key note session will provide an overview of the changing landscape of
adult learning and there will be opportunities for participation and
discussion throughout the day. Contributors to the course include: Tricia
Hartley, CEO Campaign for Learning, The Ashmolean Museum, Weald and Downland
Museum, Jocelyn Goddard (Heritage Consultant), The Oxford University Museums
and Jane Austen House.
The course is suitable for museums beginning to consider devising adult
learning programmes and events as well as those with experience. This day is
designed to be combined with a further Renaissance South East course:
³Engaging hard to reach adults² on 13 December in Brighton which explores
working with difficult to reach adults through project and outreach work.
More details on that course shortly.
Feedback from previous courses in this programme has been extremely
positive. Just one of the comments on the course we ran this week:
"This day was brilliantly organised and packed with interest - fantastic!"
