'Take One...' SW Network
Somerset Heritage Service are holding a training day on cross-curricular uses of museums objects on 27th September 2010 in Taunton, Somerset.
The training day will inform museum professionals and volunteers about the ’Take One…’ model, a hugely successful project created by the National Gallery.
It is aimed at showing teachers how single objects (artefacts, documents, paintings and sites) can be used as a valuable resource across the curriculum.
Previous CPD days have been held using the model in Somerset and below are just a few comments made by teachers attending those days:
What did you think of the Take One project?
“…the day was inspirational and I have been supported in implementing the project in school. This is just the kind of thing we need to keep the curriculum fresh, interesting and creative.”
“Because it was so cross-curricular we were able to incorporate normal lessons and didn’t have to compromise on any other areas of learning.”
“It was good for local information and knowledge, pooling ideas and thinking about how to use all the museums resources in school to motivate children.”
To get a sense of what this project may include, you can have a look at the National Gallery’s website (www.takeonepicture.org). This includes case studies of projects schools have done based on pictures from the National Gallery’s collection and an overview of how this project will be structured.
