Dear fellow design researchers,
It helps me to remember that one can search for something: "I am searching FOR the unknown."
However, you can not research FOR something. Rather, you just research: "I am researching the unknown".
The objects of attention are different. In the case of searching, the objects of attention are at a distance (withheld, hidden, lost, unavailable etc.); in the case of researching, the objects of attention are present but their meaning or significance is at a distance (as yet unknown).
Whether these distinctions exceed, avoid, deny, embrace the prefix of RE, or not, the sense of searching again, after having already found, certainly is present.
Cheers
