Has anyone else run across a story of St. Gertrude having been buried
with prayer beads? Or of beads being found in her tomb? Or of beads
being exhibited and said to have been hers?
It would be quite an early instance of them, if so, though not
impossible. But I've only heard it from a rather unreliable source
which did not have a footnote for it. The earliest reasonably-reliable
mention I know of is the beads of Lady Godiva, reported by William of
Malmesbury, and the earlies *surviving* Christian prayer beads I know
of are 12th or 13th century.
