About the Seminar
A recent study into congestion charging and road building in Durham City concluded that a variety of major interventions failed to address congestion and access issues. This seminar will consider the implications of the study and how Durham will try to address future transport needs.
About the Speaker
Dave Wafer is the Strategic Traffic Manger within the Transport Group of Durham County Council. As part of Regeneration and Economic Development his role is to help deliver sustainable growth in one of the Country's largest Unitary Councils.
Since graduating from Newcastle 1985 Dave has spent his entire career in developing and implementing transport solutions in County Durham. His current remit includes a wide range of services from Road Safety to Network Management. Dave was the lead on the recent investigation to widen the current congestion charge as supported through the Governments Transport Innovation Fund Managing Congestion in Durham City
Seminar Venue
The Cassie Building is building number 14 on the Campus Map (http://www.ncl.ac.uk/travel/maps/printable/Campus-Map-Print.pdf) and is about a 5-10 minute walk from Haymarket bus station, Haymarket or Jesmond metro stations, both of which are easily accessible from Newcastle Central station or Newcastle International Airport. The TORG seminars are intended to disseminate ongoing research and encourage detailed discussions of a diverse range of transport topics in an informal environment. The seminars are part of a wider programme within the School of Civil Engineering and Geosciences (http://www.ceg.ncl.ac.uk/seminars/index.htm) all of which are free of charge and open for external guests to attend.
