The 3rd TRANSTEC congress in New Delhi is an international event
coinciding with the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi to discuss and
explore new directions in the field of sustainable transport, ITS,
green transport solutions and the rise of developing countries as a
major player in transport industry. In 2010 in conjunction with the
Commonwealth Games in New Delhi the city will host the third TRANSTEC
conference. This follows along the steps of the successful TRANSTEC
Athens 2004, and Prague 2007 conferences and promises to be an even
more exciting event.
India today is particularly interesting for the transportation
industry. The Indian economy is going through a period of boom with
the GDP levels exceeding 5.8% growth rate and the government’s
spending heavily on transport related infrastructure. In fact there
are no signs of recession. Recession seems to have just slowed down
the astronomical increases in property prices that the country
experienced between 2003 and 2008. The feeling of recession is almost
absent from all market indicators, government’s spending plans and
market confidence in retail and infrastructure sectors. Things have
slowed down a bit compared to GDP growth rate of 10% p.a. in 2008 to
5.8% in 2009 considering that this was the worst monsoon year in a
decade and the worst global recession in years.
Several key projects have been planned and are being launched. In
India the government has committed itself to spend £12 billion on
transport infrastructure in the next 20 years (allocating £3 billion
for the each 5 year plan period). This includes investment in road,
rail, airports, ITS, urban transit, and port sector. It is clear that
the Indian economy will dominate civil and transportation projects in
the next 20 years and early winners in these markets will gain
substantially.
India is also rapidly expanding its consumer class and is investing a
considerable amount of funding to improve its urban transportation
system over the next several years. In India, there are 6 cities with
more than 10 million people at present. There are 393 metropolitan
areas in India that have a population of 100,000 or more, and 63 of
these cities have over 1.5 million population. These 63 cities have
been targeted by the national government for significant urban
transportation improvements. The country’s urban population is
currently around 30 % (350 million) of its total population (1.1
billion people). Experience throughout the world indicates that, as
economies grow, rapid urbanisation takes this proportion to over 60
percent before stabilization occurs. In recognition of this growth,
the Indian Ministry of Urban Development has identified 12 cities to
be awarded grants ranging from £60-£100 million to improve their urban
transportation systems.
India also has a rapidly increasing technically educated labor force
graduating from 253 universities and 12,732 colleges. In addition
Indian Engineering institutes churn out about 300,000 engineers every
year. One of the big advantages for the Worldwide workforce is the
widespread use of high quality spoken and written English amongst the
masses. This makes business, off shoring and productivity in business
processes more attractive than other countries. India has always been
the hub of IT revolution and is fast becoming the hub for offshore
business processing.

The presentations and exhibits of research and technology will focus
on six main areas: sustainable transport, advanced and innovative
systems, and transportation modelling simulation, ITS and road safety,
developing countries. Emphasis is on the methodological, theoretical
and practical advances in science, engineering, and technology of
transportation and environmentally sustainable transport systems.
PROGRAMME
This is a two-pronged congress with an exhibition and a conference.
The conference portion spans a wide spectrum of transportation
practice and research with an expected 150 individual presenters and
approximately 200 attendees. The conference program is delivered in
three distinct formats of keynote speeches, research presentations,
and interactive poster presentations.

The congress will take place April 4-7, 2010 in New Delhi at The
Imperial Hotel in central Delhi which is one of the finest 6* art deco
hotels in the world.

Timelines and Important Dates
Abstracts for presentation can be submitted at any time until 1st
February 2010. Presentations will be selected based on topic relevance
and early submission. After the initial selection of abstracts, a full
paper is expected by 15th February, 2010. Early bird registration ends
on 15th February 2010.
All papers received will be published in the conference proceedings to
be distributed at the conference. A small number of papers will be
peer-reviewed by a technical steering committee to be published in a
selection of refereed journals. To give the highest number of
participants the possibility of presenting a paper, the organizers
reserve the right to select one out of multiple submissions from the
same person.
TRANSTEC includes two types of delivery of papers: session
presentations and poster presentations. Session presentations are in
sessions of 4-5 papers with each paper taking 15 minutes for the
presentation and a few minutes for questions. Poster presentations
are interactive sessions during which each author has about 5 minutes
to highlight the poster and then 1.5 hours to discuss details with a
smaller audience around the poster. Proposals for poster presentations
undergo the same selection procedure and criteria as session
presentations. Please indicate if your abstract is for a poster or a
session presentation.

• 1000 words maximum.
• May include one figure or table.
• Format should be in PDF or MSWord and must include the names,
affiliation and country of the authors, title, abstract, and the type
of presentation you wish to make (poster or session presentation).
• Identify one author as the contact person.
• Submit by email to [log in to unmask] with “TRANSTEC DELHI
ABSTRACT” in the subject line.
• Include a list of keywords with your abstract submission such as:
ITS, traffic technology, software, hardware, modelling, simulation,
soft computing, developing countries, ports etc.
