Have you thought of the old favourite, tomato ketchup? It stains a bit, but
it's not as peristent as a dye. It can also be thinned with water to
whatever consistency you want.

Subject: Fake blood
Hello all!
We are going to be running a CSI-style workshop where kids will be looking
at blood splatter analysis. The kids will drip 'blood' and see how the
splatter looks different from different heights. For this we were going to
be using red food colouring which has the right consistency, however, there
are concerns about staining. Would any one have any suggestions about what
we might use as an alternative to food colouring but still give the same
effect?
Thanks in advance.
