Michael,
That is characteristic of mild iodine deficiency. There is decreased
synthesis of T4 in favour of T3 with normal TSH, for the purpose of
conserving iodine. Sorry, I missed your previous posting if you've
asked this before.
Iodine deficiency in Germany? Well yes, actually. Of the 32 Western
European and North American countries surveyed by WHO in 2002, 12
showed evidence of iodine deficiency in the diet, and these included
Germany, France and Italy. For a further 5 countries, insufficient
data were available - and one of these countries was the UK. That's
how we deal with these problems here!
