A while ago, I added the Learning Team to Twitter, to see what sort of
conversations people would want to have with the Museum.
It did take a while to gather a network of people who would be willing to
interact with me and not just follow. It also took some effort on my part, to
try and encourage people to talk to us, but I found some interesting ways to
interact with my network. So far, I have played guessing games (with images
from the collection), posted photographs from workshops, recieved feedback
from events, and, mostly, advertise the events that we are running.
The biggest benefit I have found is that it is another way to increase your
audiences' awareness of you and your activities. When you have a big
enough network, people start to retweet what you have said and your
message gets passed on further.
So far we have over 500 followers, and its increasing on a daily basis. I think
that joining twitter is a good thing as it is another way to interact with your
audience and you can put as much effort into it as you want.
