The Music Subject Specialist Network is offering a training session on "Education Sessions for Music Collections: matching your collection of historical musical instruments with the National Curriculum".
June 29th 10.30 - 3.30, Faculty of Music, University of Oxford.
A day of skill-sharing workshops for for people with a responsibility for musical instrument collections. These sessions are intended to answer questions and give you the confidence to make the fullest use of your instruments when running educations events for schools, colleges and life-long learners. We hope to encourage you to meet the needs of the school curriculum and build partnerships with teachers and other educators.
The day will be divided into three parts. The opening workshop will be led by museum educator Isabelle Carré of the Bate Collection and the Pitt Rivers Museum, who will demonstrate how to tailor your school visit programmes to various examination schemes of the National Curriculum. Isabelle will be drawing on years of dealing with changing music courses and running museum sessions.
The second session will be led by Irit Narkiss of Manchester Museum and will examine some of the issues of enhanced public access to objects in our collections. In particular she will focus on methods of making the museum experience relevant to school project groups.
The final session will be the round-up and feed-back session led by Andy Lamb of the Bate Collection. Together we will try to analyse some of the topics we have dealt with during the day, discuss those which have been of use and see what might need to be done to optimise future sessions.
