Dear Gulden,
To some extent your query depends on what you mean by 'design'. Which of the
800 or so fields of design are you thinking of?
If you Google 'sustainability education' you'll find resources that give a
'history of sustainable design education' across a wide variety of design
fields. If you also do searches on 'sustainability history' you will get a
set of resources that take you back to the 50s. You can follow this with a
study of the 'Whole Earth Catalog and its predecessors and 'sustainable
agriculture' (try Albrecht for sustainable agricultural design education).
Try 'ecology history' for pointers to an history of ecologically-based
design education.
I'm not sure how far back you want to go. If you look at resources on
philanthropy in the industrial revolution you find some of what would be
regarded as 'sustainability-based design activity' (and by implication some
sustainability-based design education). Detailed review of the syllabi of
the Mechanic's Institutes are probably worth reviewing for sustainable
design elements - particularly the early years of Birkbeck College in the
1800s.
It's a start...
Best,
Terry

Subject: History of sustainable design education
Dear All,
As I have explained in my previous email couple of weeks ago I am a Master
student from Istanbul/Turkey working on the thesis about sustainable design
education.
As a part of my research I am looking for some sources and articles about
"History of sustainable design education".
However I could not find any.
I wonder if anybody can help with this topic.
Kind regards
Gulden Malya
