A simple active infra-red beam counter should do the trick. They're not
100% accurate, but you should get a pretty good idea of how many people are
coming through.
You'll get more accuracy if you can arrange for all your park visitors to
enter through a narrow entrance - ideally one person wide. Many units claim
to handle entrances up to 3 metres, but that's bound to increase the
possibility of false triggering.
Put "people counter" into Google, and you'll find a number of firms that
sell off-the-shelf solutions.

Subject: counting people
Hi all
our museums service includes a 17th C stately house and park. we can
count accurately the figures for the house because there is a charge,
but we have difficulty counting the numbers who use the (free) park
area. consequently, the true user figure is difficult to measure and we
look like we offer services to a very small minority. we are not in a
position to reduce or remove entry fees to the house yet need to prove
that the site servces a much larger proportion of people. does anyone
work somewhere similar and could offer suggestions for how we might more
accurately count users?
many thanks
