Dear All,
A final reminder about InSite, an amazing professional development
opportunity from Their Past Your Future at the Imperial War Museum. The
deadline for receipt of entries has been extended to 9 March. See
www.theirpast-yourfuture.org.uk/InSite for full details and to download an
application form. It's the last time InSite will run, as funding for TPYF runs out
at the end of December this year, so your last chance to take part.
I can't stress enough what an incredible opportunity this is for museum staff
to visit venues in other countries, see how they deal with their histories, talk
to staff working in Germany, Czech Republic and Hungary, and network with
fellow professionals, with most expenses paid - you just have to get to
London. Although the historic period on which InSite focuses is post-1945
Europe, participants from last year worked in a variety of organisations, many
without a direct link to the subject matter. It's a great opportunity for
professional development in its widest sense, to immerse yourself in the
museum profession, to critically analyse how museums do things, with the
company of like-minded people to really make you think.
Participants from the profession who took part in the programmes during 2007
and 2008 said:
'…the visit has reinforced the importance of getting the basics right in
museums, and has provided a range of examples on using personal
testimonies. It has given me more confidence in arguing for an imaginative
approach to our galleries.'
'It’s been a brilliant and unforgettable experience.'
'It gave me an opportunity to reflect on my own knowledge and inspired me to
want to share what I’d learned with my colleagues on my return, and find out
more for myself.'
'I found it a very enriching trip giving me time to reflect on what for me is new
knowledge, it was a time when I made some new friends I trust and can call
on for advice.'
Please do consider applying, and please also pass to anyone else you think
might be interested. If you'd like to discuss anything to do with the
programme then please get in touch with me direct. I'm also able to put you
in touch with past participants, if you need further persuasion of how
interesting and worthwhile InSite is.
Many thanks
Amy
