Dear Katie,
i am replying to whole list as I find your benchmark study lacks the upper rates (including those I submitted). I regularily work with artists who are employed as freelance educators in london, and these are the, just 2, variations of rates - I am leaving institutional names out (as reply goes to whole list) but am happy to provide them on request
daily rates:
delivery of workshops to school/community groups:
a: £180
b: £170
delivery of teacher's insets/cpd's/consultancy
a: £230/day
b: 210/day
educators own cpd (study/exchange/training day)
a:£180/day
b:£120/day
planning day:
a:100/day
b: 120/day
Half days days or less are a little above half the rates shown above. Hourly rate, in these two institutions, does not exist (as setting up travel, preparation and evaluation is appreciated)
I am dismayed at seeing the low rates paid to those who deliver gallery education programmes - i.e deals with the public, prepare and present and disseminate information and make our collections accessible.
The pay needs to reflect the value we put on this, and although money may be tight there is an argument for paying the experts who deliver it, adequately, at the very least.
again - information on rates payable to artist educators available via arts council england site as well as a-n.co.uk
thanks
Lilli

Subject: Re: Freelance Educator Rates
Dear all,
I asked a very similar question to the GEM list about freelance
educator rates and was very grateful for people's responses. Many
respondees asked that the organisations they gave information for should
not named. I've attached a table which does not name the institutions
but shows daily pay rates. I hope you find this useful.
Many thanks,
Katie

Hi all
Sorry if this has been asked many a time- but was wondering what people
paid freelance educators- those that work on an 'ad hoc' basis to
deliver sessions aleady prepared.
I would be looking at them actually going into schools.
Any suggestions- advice and amounts would be great!
Thanks
