This day will open up ways in which museums and the heritage sector can foster and support the active participation of older audiences, with a specific focus on local community engagement. Through case study presentations and practical workshops, the needs and expectations of older participants will be explored equipping delegates with new or refreshed insights, ideas and skills to support effective engagement.
Who is the day for?
All those involved in managing, delivering or supporting learning and participation work with and for older audiences including:
· Learning, participation and audience development staff.
· Freelance artists and facilitators.
· Volunteer co-ordinators and volunteers.
You will have the opportunity to learn about:
o Motivations for participating as experienced by 'participants'.
o The driving forces behind effective engagement /participation.
o The challenges, opportunities and rewards of working with older audiences.
o Reminiscence principles and techniques.
o The value of creative participation.
o Principles, practicalities and outcomes of intergenerational learning.
