medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture

>>Abelard's brother, Canon Porcharius of Nantes Cathedral...had been a
resident "father figure" to young Astralabe.
> WOA!
> you mean that Astro had a *brother*?
> an *OLDER* brother??
> non non, this won't fit into the Standard Screenplay for the Movie at all.
> definitely time for a Script Revision before we go into Production.
> Dear Christopher,
> Get a grip.
trying.
trying.
Dog nose, i'm trying.
it's not so easy, when dealing with this potentially stimulating subject
matter.
> Astralabe was an ONLY child because, *as we all know*, Abelard was gelded
before he could get Heloise with child a second time.
which is why my Misreading and Conclusion Jumping caused so much Consternation
in Some Parts.
the Producers would never, ever allow it, if we are to keep our R-13 Rating
for this damned Movie.
> Abelard himself was the eldest of at least five siblings: Dagobert, Rudalt
(Radulphus), Porcharius = brethren; and Dionysia (Denise) = sister.
sisterens, technically.
i've never come across a "Radalt[us]" before.
nor Porcharius, for that matter.
Breton --or Breton variants, i assume.
>These are the ones who made it into a) adulthood & b) the record. There may
have been others. Abelard's parents were married in 1078 and were still BOTH
alive in 1112 when they entered Religion.
good points.
>Only 5 children is quite a small number for a marriage that lasted over 30
years.
yes, but Viday Soupra, re a) and b), both of which are definitely dispositive
considerations here.

too bad.
should have been in Medieval Prosopography
http://www.wmich.edu/medieval/mip/journals/prosopog.htm
Bernie Bachrach runs a pretty Tight Ship, there.
> I have since revised some of my more speculative opinions since writing
that - research is a never-ending process
Big Mistake.
once you publish something, once you've Established the Geschichte Thingie,
wie es eigentlich gewesen ist, you should Fight it Out on that Line Forever,
no matter how damned long it takes or what new documents float to the
surface.
that's only Fair.
>- but the core material is still OK.
well, That's a Relief.
