We did it last year and no, it did not go smoothly. We had a LOT of
unconverted characters, especially with accented and other way punctuated
vowels. In addition we had unconverted characters appearing in "strange"
places, like names of review files etc. We even had the same character
converted with two different codes, one in bib record, the other in
authority records. Another problem was the difference in display between
indexes and the records themselves and between staff client and Web Opac.My
advise is to preselect, or even create, a few records (of various types)
with as many untypical characters as you can and check it right after the
conversion. The process itself is smooth and not time/work consuming but the
amount of "trash" after that was enormous.

Subject: Unicode storage conversion
We've just put in a request for Unicode storage conversion. Has anyone else done this recently and would be willing to share any advice? Did it go smoothly? Any issues after conversion with Millennium Cataloguing, WebOPAC, or export to union databases?
Thanks,
Karen
