Dear All,
I realise that this question is not education related, but the Gemmers are such
a mine of information that I am hoping you can help me with ideas. I am
currently investigating two issues:
1. Customer care - I would like to find some museums, galleries or heritage
sites in London to take staff to see good and poor customer care in practice.
We are undergoing a review of our service at the moment, and we would like
to look at some other venues to help us consider what we think of our
approach to customer care. I appreciate that emailing your advice to the list
on venues that you consider to have poor customer care is not appropriate,
as it may cause offence to the museums in question. I know from the
museums I have worked in that services are rarely perfect for all sorts of
reasons, but seeing it publicly in black and white would be very difficult.
Therefore, if you are willing to share poor examples you could email them
directly to me at [log in to unmask]
2. Retail - We need to refurbish our museum shop. I'd like to find some
examples of small community museums who have shops which sell a mix of
multicultural, educational and 'traditional museum shop' items. If anyone can
suggest some venues to visit (in or at a reasonable distance to London) I
would be very grateful.
Best wishes,
Heather Hollins,
Museum Development Manager,
Hackney Museum.
