Dear All,
Their Past Your Future at the Imperial War Museum has just launched a
competition for young people from all over the UK aged 14-16 to win a trip
to the First World War battlefields of northern France and Belgium. They
will represent their communities at the commemorations for the 90th
anniversary of the Armistice in November 2008.
To enter, young people will have to undertake a small amount of research
into the First World War and how it relates to their own community and
present it in whichever way they want to. Whilst on the trip they will
follow the stories of some of those men and women who served on the
Western Front, including Thomas Bickerton who, on returning to France 46
year after the war, concluded that 'it would be a good thing if all young
people could visit this area - they would then perhaps realise the
sacrifices of my generation.’ Thomas Bickerton, IWM Documents
We'd be grateful if you'd help us get this opportunity out to as many
people as possible in your venues and communities. More information can
be found on our website - www.theirpast-yourfuture.org.uk/awaytoremember
and attached is a poster which can be printed out A4 or A3 and displayed
or distributed. We're keen to attact as many applicants from as many
different backgrounds and places as possible.
Many thanks for your help
Amy Ryall (Project Officer, Their Past Your Future)
