Hi Juris,

The genie is indeed out of the bottle, and despite it's confused (or
polyvalent) identity, it's playing an ever more important role in
shaping social structure, relationships of power, concepts of order,
progress and even morality! It is already functioning as a "belief
mechanism" (and therefore, perhaps already being "abused"?)!
Absolutely!
And as I said in an earlier post, I've been thinking about the way the concept of creativity is currently reinforcing and challenging the way social formations of art and design operate (at least, the way they've been working in New Zealand).
Thanks Eduardo, for your ‘middle history of design.’ It helped fill in some gaps for me.
In the spirit of definitions, I offer that we think of Design as a dynamic process that involves 4 related elements:
Cultural symbols
Normative concepts
Political and social institutions
Subjective identity
