Dear Ken
In common with many universities we are faced here in Southampton with
ever increasing demands on the space used to house our map collection. A
decision has been made to move the maps from their location in the
School of Geography to an area within the main university library. The
present location affords some degree of security and supervision but the
proposed site is in a much more open access area, concerns have been
raised regarding the possibility of maps being stolen. Could I ask you
to circulate a request for information on how other institutions handle
the map security problem, is it by tagging or some other means? I would
be most grateful for any information on the subject.
Regards
John
