Positive Action Traineeship, North East Regional Museums Hub.

The North East Regional Museums Hub (NERMH) is offering a two-year full-
time traineeship to prepare a person of African, African-
Caribbean, Asian or Chinese descent for work in museums and galleries. This
traineeship is being offered in partnership with Tyne
& Wear Museums (TWM) and the International Centre for Cultural and Heritage
Studies (ICCHS) at Newcastle University. It is part of the
Museums Association’s Diversify initiative aimed at improving access to
museum careers. The traineeship is funded by MLA (the Museums,
Libraries and Archives Council) through Renaissance North East.
The Positive Action Traineeship offers an opportunity to gain experience of
working in a range of museum functions, at the
equivalent level of a Curatorial Assistant, whilst studying for a
recognised qualification. The successful candidate will:
- be flexible, enthusiastic and committed to developing a career within
museums and galleries in the UK
- have a first or upper second class honours degree, or equivalent
qualification or experience that will meet university admission
requirements
- be eligible for home student university fees (for example be a national
of the UK or another EU country)
- be of African, African-Caribbean, Asian or Chinese descent.
The Traineeship offers the successful candidate:
- Part-time training at TWM and NERMH in Museum/Curatorial practice
- Free place on the part-time MA in Museum/Gallery Studies/Heritage
- Education and Interpretation degree course at Newcastle University
- Free attendance at the Museums Association annual conference and other
events
- Living allowance of £10,648 - £11,161p.a.
