Hello everybody,
I'm looking for ideas ....
We have had a local community organisation hiring our Education Room at
Skidby Mill recently, to provide workshops for travellers - supposedly for
adults only, but several brought their children along too, and the
organiser clearly was unable to cope with the unexpected demands made on
her. The resultant anarchy was extremely worrying, not least because a
working windmill is not a place where children can run amock in safety!
However, we really want to support her and her organisation in what they
are doing, and would like to translate what appear to be woolly good
intentions into something which would be of real benefit. On the one hand,
she really needed more (or more effective) helpers. On the other, she
felt that she did not have any ideas for dealing with unexpected children
other than to provide felt pens and paper. We would like to suggest ways
in which the parents and children could be treated as a unit, and work
together on some sort of project, and would be really interested in hearing
from fellow museum educators about any projects which they had carried out
with traveller families.
all contribitutions very gratefully received!!
