medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
I thought that witches were burnt not because of their witching activities
but because they were heretics, worshipping Satan. In England (but not in
Scotland), the authorities seemed to be less worried about their religious
beliefs than about their milk-curdling and infertility-inducing talents, and
therefore in general preferred to hang them - perhaps somewhat less
unpleasant, and therfore proving the Superiority of English Common Law, if
not of the Culture of Christendom.
Does anyone know whether Ireland enjoyed the Blessings of English Law, or
the Curse of the Continent, in this respect?

probably one of those.
which proves the Superiority of the Culture of Christendom.
Burning is the only Fitting --and sufficiently Clensing-- Executiatory
Solution.
