Dear Pernille
In Victoria (Australia) current curriculum is based on the Victorian
Essential Learning Standards (VELS) for Prep (age 5) to year 10
(approximate age 15). There are specific Victorian Certificate of
Education (VCE) Study Designs for Years 11 and 12 (Senior Secondary)
that have a focus on design such as Visual Communication and Design
http://www.vcaa.vic.edu.au/vce/studies/visualcomm/vcommindex.html; and
Design and Technology
http://www.vcaa.vic.edu.au/vce/studies/designtech/destechindex.html as
well as vocational learning programs.
The VELS Design, Creativity and Technology Standards are available at:
http://vels.vcaa.vic.edu.au/essential/interdisciplinary/design/index.htm
l
Examples that explain the characteristics of student work (as they
progress through the learning continuum - for DCT Levels 3, 4, 5 and 6)
can be found in the Assessment Maps on the VELS website.

(Further samples will be added to the currently incomplete DCT
Assessment Map this year.)
The Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (VCAA) developed
material titled 'Design Awareness in Schools' included on a DVD (Student
Learning, February 2006) distributed to all Victorian Schools. This
resource is used widely used by design and technology teachers,
particularly in secondary schools. It is intended that this material
will be converted to make it suitable for the web environment during
2008.
The Design Awareness in Schools material includes PowerPoint
presentations, animations and student worksheets on:
Design elements and principles
Design process
Design in Information and Communications Technology
Learning activities (units of work)
Careers in design
Design resources
