Dear Colleagues,
I would like to bring to the attention of the list a very well
written new book on design that is available to all at http://opim.wharton.upenn.edu/~ulrich/designbook.html
There are seven chapters of the book "Design: Creation of
Artifacts in Society" there already and others are being added under
the open publishing Creative Commons Attribution (something we should
also be aware of) . As I struggle to write my book, the clarity,
organization and value of this work is inspiring and could serve as a
model for writing about design. The book is especially enlightening
for people in other disciplines but it is a masterful treatise for
all of us . The author Karl Ulrich is well versed in practical design
issues but brings a broad perspective to them. If you don't know his
work, look also at
Ulrich, K.T. and S.D. Eppinger. 2004. Product Design and Development.
