Hello
I am currently part of a small group of Educators involved in a European
Union Comenius 2.1 Project known as Miles (Migration Learning in European
Schools) and it is in this context that the questions below have arisen.
I am interested to find out if anyone has carried out any studies as to
how museum visits by school age children can change attitudes to various
issues.
My particular interests is in attitudes to immigration, especially by non
immigrants and whether a study of regional and national migration patterns
and processes in the past can lead to increased levels of acceptance to
newcomers in society.
The context for the study would be our museum which concentrates on the
theme of emigration from Ireland to America in the 19th and 19th
centuries.
The second question is a much wider issue. How far should museums become
involved in something which is something of a political football in some
areas of Europe and where approaches differ between political parties,
within parties and indeed have evolved and changed over time.
Thanks
